craftsman kitchen
craftsman kitchen We completely remodeled an outdated, poorly designed kitchen that was separated from the rest of the house by a narrow doorway. We opened the wall to the dining room and framed it with an oak archway. We transformed the space with an open, timeless design that incorporates a counter-height eating and work area, cherry inset door shaker-style cabinets, increased counter work area made from Cambria quartz tops, and solid oak moldings that echo the style of the 1920's bungalow. Some of the original wood moldings were re-used to case the new energy efficient window.

design mmoca
mmoca design The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art invited a handful area Interior Designers and Architects to design a room "vignette" based around an artwork from their permanent collection. We collaborated with Bungalow Pros to design and create a child's warehouse-loft style bedroom space, centered around Mary Heilmann's 21st Century Fox aquatint. We built custom painted vacuform plastic brick panels and faux-wood timbers as the backdrop for the warehouse space. Mobile custom fabricated by Guttersmiths of Wisconsin. Re-used windows from DeConstruction architectural salvage. Furniture generously loaned from Century House.

modern lower level living
lower level living This 1950's ranch had a huge basement footprint that was unused as living space. With the walkout double door and plenty of southern exposure light, it made a perfect guest bedroom, living room, full bathroom, utility and laundry room, and plenty of closet storage, and effectively doubled the square footage of the home. The bathroom is designed with a curbless shower, allowing for wheelchair accessibility, and incorporates mosaic glass and modern tile. The living room incorporates a computer controlled low-energy LED accent lighting system hidden in recessed light coves in the utility chases.

facade design
covered porch addition We created 3 options to improve the curb appeal of a modest postwar house. Each of the designs place greater emphasis on the front porch, incorporate new landscaping and planting beds to replace a diseased spruce tree that must be removed. Half of the driveway will incorporate a water permeable turf/paver system. Arbors will enable climbing plants to create shaded and scenic access to the yard.

ecclectic addition design
covered porch addition A two story addition includes a sunken family room with woodburning fireplace, a master suite with full bath, a screened porch, and enables the existing dated kitchen and bathroom to be re-envisioned. The rooflines and exterior finishes blend seamlessly to the 1938 home, while the interior spaces will have their own contemporary feel. The addition is also designed to protect the root system of a 80 year old white pine tree.

whole house redesign
whole house redesign We collaborated for over 9 months with the homeowners to completely redesign their historic 1900 home. The older part of the house will be gutted and rebuilt, preserving the best historic elements. The entire 2nd floor will become a master suite with private bath retreat. A new kitchen, built-in cabinetry and custom millwork will accent the original fireplace and floors. Digital design software allows for multiple revisions and easy visualization of the designs. Construction to begin Spring 2009.

interior redesign
interior redesign We designed a revised floor plan for all living spaces in an historic 2-story home, part of the Arboretum Co-housing group. We opened up the small, inefficient kitchen with island bar counter, added more closet storage, designed new built-in cabinetry and removed inefficient traffic patterns. Kitchen and bath treatments and living space color schemes are communicated through digital 3-D models.
